چکیده

Carrier-grade Ethernet has evolved greatly since its creation. Its simplicity, scalability, and inexpensiveness have made it an attractive technology for enterprises to interconnect their metro area networks (MANs). Today, Carrier Ethernet can span over 10,000 km. Ethernet Services were created to enable companies to distribute their own services through the carriergrade network. All the data that enters the Carrier Ethernet network (CEN) is policed by the CEN provider based on the service level agreement (SLA). Among the QoS attributes that are agreed upon is the packet loss rate (PLR) guarantee, committed information rate (CIR) and excess information rate (EIR). In this work we study the relation between PLR and throughput performance. This relationship can then be used to increase the throughput performance of the Ethernet Services transport protocol (ESTP). It achieves this by configuring an ESTP parameter that allows the CEN provider to increase the user’s throughput at the cost of PLR or vice versa. This increase is done while main maintaining the throughput above the CIR and below the EIR using only transport-layer algorithms.

Carrier-Grade Ethernet Technologies for Next Generation Wide Area Ethernet

This paper describes an overview of overall carrier-grade Ethernet technologies for next generation wide area Ethernet. In recent years, from access network to metro and core network, we can find many areas where communication services are provided by Ethernet technologies. This comes from the fact that operational efficiency and economical efficiency of Ethernet are far better than that of con...

NSIS-Based Quality of Service and Resource Allocation in Ethernet Networks

The definition of the IEEE 802.1Q and IEEE 802.1p standards provided Class of Service (CoS) capabilities to Ethernet networks and, consequently, allowed new QoS services to be deployed. This is used by the Subnet Bandwidth Management (SBM) protocol, an RSVP-based protocol that provides IntServ-like services at Ethernet level. This paper proposes an alternative way to quality of service provisio...

Bandwidth Provisioning Architecture in Backhaul

the Metro Ethernet Forum has defined a set of Ethernet Virtual Connection services that are adopted to provide scalable Ethernet transport for mobile backhaul. However, these services usually address single cell site backhaul per UNI handoff, not considering statistical multiplexing gain at a hub site which aggregates backhaul traffics of multiple cell sites backhaul pipe. This paper proposed a...
